Connecting your PC to Reinhardt's Data Network

The wired network is only available in the apartments, East and West.  All other residence halls use the wireless connection instructions.

Quick Instructions

  • Connect your network card to the Ethernet connection on the wall in your room
  • Ensure that TCP/IP is loaded on your network card and configured for DHCP (automatic addresses)
  • Ensure that your browser is configured to use a LAN connection
  • Start browsing the network.

Detailed Instructions

To connect to the network, you will need an Ethernet Network CARD (NIC) installed in your computer (most new computers are equipped with network cards). If you do not have a NIC card already installed you will need to purchase and install the CARD for your computer.

There is a difference between a MODEM connection and a NETWORK connection on the back of your computer. Although they both look similar, network connectors are larger and use special cables.

  • Do not connect your network connection cable to your phone jack in your room.
  • Do not connect your a telephone modem line to the network jack in your room.
