Current Green Efforts

♦ Celebrating Earth Day on campus each spring since 1997.

♦ Retrofitted restroom light fixtures to produce energy savings.

♦ Retrofitting restrooms with waterless
urinals.

♦ Use "green" housekeeping supplies and chemicals.

♦ Restoring the College's Burgess Arboretum.

♦ Planted an American Chestnut Tree Orchard on campus.

♦ Established the Sustainability Advisory Committee.

♦ Expanded the College's recycling program.

♦ Developed 7-miles of hiking and biking
trails on campus.

♦ Installed bike racks around each academic and recreational building.

♦ Established "Spring into Green" campaign.

♦ Planted a Xeriscape around the Funk Heritage Center's Bennett Museum.

♦ Created recovery area within the
maintenance facility for all campus
waste including:

  • Used oil to recycle,
  • Used oil filters for disposal,
  • Used paint products for disposal,
  • Used gas and mineral spirit products for disposal,
  • Used light bulbs, ballast and exit light batteries etc. for disposal
  • Used photo processing fluid from Fincher Arts for disposal.
  • Biological waste from the Biology Department for disposal.
