The next Chili Cook Off will be

Reinhardt College Faculty, Staff and Students were invited to participate in the First Annual Chili Cook Off. 

The participating teams for January 2009 were:

The winner of the People's Choice award went to Hototrot.

The winner of Best in Show went to the Pre-Nursing Club.

The winner of Best Tasting went to the Pre-Nursing Club.

And the CHILI CHAMP went to Hototrot.

CHILI COOK OFF RULES

TEAM: Each team is allowed up to THREE members.  Team Members can be faculty, staff and/or students at Reinhardt College.

CHILI COOKED ON SITE: All chili must be cooked on site the day of the cook-off. All Chili must be prepared in the Gordy Center Dining Hall.

MEAT: Meat will be provided for you by the Gordy Center Staff.

INGREDIENTS: All ingredients will be supplied to you by the Gordy Center Staff.  Include the ingredient list (not the recipe) with your registration form.

Commercial chili powder is permissible, but complete commercial chili mixes (just add meat” mixes that contain pre-measured spices) are not permitted.

SANITATION: Cooks are to prepare and cook chili in as sanitary a manner as possible.  Gloves (provided) and Hair restraints (provided if needed) will be required.

INSPECTION OF COOKING CONDITIONS: Cooking conditions are subject to inspection by the head judge or his/her designee. (Failure to comply is subject to disqualification.)

COOKS MAY HAVE TO TASTE THEIR CHILI: At the discretion of the head judge chili cooks may be required taste their chili before turning in for judging. (if a contestant refuses, his or her chili will be disqualified.)

PYROTECHNICS: No chili contestant may discharge firearms or use any pyrotechnics or explosives at a chili cook-off. Contestants discharging firearms and/or using explosives or other pyrotechnics will be disqualified from the chili cook-off.

AWARDS: There will be an official ceremony at 1:00 p.m.  Awards will be given to the Best Tasting, Best Show (Theme and costumes), and People’s Choice.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Chili will be judged on the following five criteria:

  1. AROMA: Chili should smell appetizing
  2. CONSISTENCY: Chili should be a smooth combination of meat and/or beans and gravy
  3. COLOR: Chili should look appetizing
  4. TASTE: Chili should taste good
  5. AFTERTASTE: Chili should leave a pleasant taste after swallowing
