Thanks to the support of 140 participants representing 26 churches, and 53 sponsors, Reinhardt College’s Eighth Annual Ministerial Scholarship Golf Outing on May 15, 2001, at Big Canoe Golf Course near Jasper, Ga., raised more than $30,000 to help fund the Work/Study Program. Work/study students at Reinhardt work on campus to help finance their education.
Winning teams included Ron Flowers, Jason Flowers, Emil Sanders and Bradley McEntire, a team representing Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Ga. - first place; Herb Mullenix, Jennifer Taylor, Touk Varney and Jim Williams, a team representing North Decatur United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ga. – second place; and Steve Dodson, Rob Galloway, Debbie Hembree and Jim Moore, a team representing Faith United Methodist Church in Cartersville, Ga., and Hillside United Methodist Church in Woodstock, Ga. – third place.
The Rev. Dr. Ron Flowers, who served as Golf Outing Committee Chair for his third year, said, "The Golf Outing is a great day of fellowship for a great cause, and I am happy to be part of it each year."
"The tournament was a tremendous success thanks to Chairman Ron Flowers, Honorary Chairman Bishop G. Lindsey Davis, the Golf Committee, players and sponsors," Development Officer Barbara Manous said.
Scholarship sponsors ($2000 level) for the tournament included Northside United Methodist Church and Snodgrass Foundation. Leadership sponsors ($1000 level) included The Genesis Group, Genesis Sunday School Class at Northside United Methodist Church, Jordan Contracting, Louis P. Lathem, Jr. and Northside United Methodist Church Missions & Outreach. Pilot Sponsors ($500 level) included ARAMARK, A.S. Turner & Sons, Obie W. Powell, Jr. and SouthTrust Bank.
The Ministerial Scholarship Golf Outing is second of two annual Reinhardt Scholarship golf tournaments.
The Dave Henritze Scholarship Golf Classic on April 30, 2001, at Hamilton Mill Golf Club, raised a record total of more than $110,000 thanks to the participation of 140 golfers and 103 donors and sponsors. This 13th annual event was originally called The Reinhardt Scholarship Golf Classic, and was renamed in 2000 in honor of the late Dave Henritze, a Reinhardt trustee and Golf Classic chair for 10 years.
The First National Bank of Cherokee also hosted its annual tournament to benefit Reinhardt’s Work/Study Program on May 2, 2001, at Big Canoe Golf Course, raising $5,300. On behalf of First National Bank of Cherokee, President Rick Kononen and CEO Carl Hames presented the check to Reinhardt Vice President for Finance and Administration Kevin Mahaney on May 25.
