Residents Celebrate Completion of Namesake Center At Reinhardt
Dalton residents Fred H. and Mozelle Bates Tarpley were able to see a dream come to fruition on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, as they celebrated and dedicated the Fred H. and Mozelle Bates Tarpley Education Center at Reinhardt College in Waleska, Ga. Both are 1940 graduates of Reinhardt and gave $1 million as a naming gift for the center.
Mr. Tarpley said during the dedication that he and Mrs. Tarpley had always wanted to give back to Reinhardt and felt blessed they have been able to make the building a possibility.
The center is an addition to the already existing George M. Lawson Academic Center. The Tarpley Center houses 22 offices that include faculty offices, study spaces, a teacher training lab and a computer lab. The Tarpley Center also includes the Moore Family Chapel made possible by funds from the Moore Family Foundation in memory of Dudley L. Moore, Sr. and in honor of Guesscelia H. Moore of Atlanta.
The Tarpleys moved to Dalton in 1946, and are long time members of the First United Methodist Church of Dalton. Mrs. Tarpley was a teacher for many years, and Mr. Tarpley is retired after 40 years in the banking industry.
