6/18/03 - The Reinhardt College Ministerial Association, RMA, presented its annual John Wesley Clergy Award to The Rev. Dr. Walter L. Kimbrough (left), senior minister at Cascade United Methodist Church, on June 17, 2003.
John Wesley was one of the founders of the Methodist church. In presenting the annual award named for Wesley, the College seeks to recognize a pastor and a layperson who epitomize the close ties between their United Methodist faith and the values taught at Reinhardt College.
RMA President The Rev. Brian Clark (center), pastor of Royston First United Methodist Church, and 1993 and 1995 graduate of Reinhardt, and Reinhardt College President J. Thomas Isherwood (right) presented the award to Kimbrough during the school's annual luncheon held during the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.
As Clark introduced the award, he said, "Our recipient this year has been a supporter of Reinhardt and higher education in general for many, many years. He served as a trustee for Reinhardt College from 1988 to 1993. The church he pastors, Cascade United Methodist Church, is known for its tremendous support of education, and he is regarded throughout the United Methodist Church as a leader, one of its best pastors and preachers."
In accepting the award, Kimbrough said, "Let me simply say how honored I am to be the recipient of the award that bears the name of John Wesley on this day, June 17th, 300 years to the day from his birth -- on the same day that the clergy of this conference elected an African American to lead us in our delegation to General Conference 2004. You have honored me. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
