Since buying the Eagles' Eye Bookshop, the bookstore on the Reinhardt College main campus in Waleska, Ga., in 1997, Jeff and Carla Roach have donated funds each year to the College's scholarship fund. This practice was established by the bookshop's founders, Max & Carol Thomas of Waleska, Ga., and Mr. Roach said they wanted to continue the tradition.
During the donation presentation on Aug. 22, 2002, Mr. Roach said he and his wife went to school at Reinhardt and have felt honored to be a part of the on campus Reinhardt Family the past five years.
"Since the store has been started, we have always wanted to give back to the College so we've been doing that scholarship," Mr. Roach said. "We wanted to keep that [the scholarship} going."
The scholarship is based on a percentage of sales on non-book items like T-shirts, pens, paper, etc. The 2001-02 sales generated $3700 to be used as scholarships for the College's Academic Support Office, ASO.
The Office of Academic Support provides supplementary instructional assistance to students with specific learning disabilities or/or Attention Deficit Disorders. Sylvia Robertson, the director of ASO, said she appreciated the Roaches' continued support.
"I want to thank Carla and Jeff for again helping Reinhardt with their Eagle's Eye Scholarship donation," Robertson said. "They make it possible for several students each year to take part in our enhanced faculty-led tutorial program. The scholarship is a wonderful way to meet financial need and to reward students who are dedicated to learning to study in their most effective way. We are grateful for the continuing support."
