06/02/05 - First Cherokee State Bank Golf Classic Raises $10K for Reinhardt A DAY Campaign

First Cherokee State Bank President Rick Kononen (left) and Chief Executive Officer Carl Hames (right) recently presented Reinhardt College President Dr. J. Thomas Isherwood (center) with $10,000 to support the A DAY for Reinhardt campaign. The funds were raised through the First Cherokee State Bank Golf Classic held on April 27 at the Big Canoe Golf Course. Thanks to the generosity of the approximately 110 players and First Cherokee State Bank, Cherokee County students attending Reinhardt College will continue to receive the Cherokee County Grant, funded through the A DAY for Reinhardt campaign.

Since the A DAY effort began in 1988, more than $1 million has been raised and awarded to local students of all ages. Currently, Reinhardt matches the funds raised through A DAY, and the resulting Cherokee County Grants have boosted local enrollment from "a handful of students" in 1988 to about 300 currently. Depending upon the student’s grade-point average and whether or not he or she lives on campus, the annual grant ranges from $500 to $2000.

With an overall enrollment around 1000 students, Reinhardt is a four-year liberal arts institution with a residential Main Campus in Cherokee County (Ga.) and an off campus center in Alpharetta, Ga.  Affiliated with The United Methodist Church, Reinhardt offers programs in 29 fields of study. Since its founding in 1883, the institution has provided a community of challenge and care.
