Students, faculty, staff and community members came together at Reinhardt College to raise $1,300 to aid victims of the tsunami disaster. Members of the Waleska, Ga.-based College's Service in Leadership Committee, Year of Asia Committee, Office of Student Activities, and Chaplain's Office joined together to create "Reinhardt Responds," which aimed to raise funds that will be sent to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to help in the organization's relief effort already underway.
Reinhardt's contribution came from a raffle. Raffle tickets were bought for $1 over the course of 3 weeks, and a drawing was held on Saturday, Feb. 6, during the College's Homecoming event for more than $500 in gifts and prizes, including a DVD/VCR, a television and assorted gift certificates, DVDs and music CDs.
"UMCOR has a slogan of "love in action," and I know that our students feel the same way. This is our way of showing our love in action," said College Chaplain the Rev. Leigh S. Martin. "UMCOR is a great relief organization with a wonderful reputation."
