During their recent meeting, the Reinhardt Board of Trustees elected William G. "Billy" Hasty Jr. as their next Chairman. Hasty will take on his duties officially in June 2006. Currently, James K. Hasson Jr. of Atlanta serves as the chairman.
Hasty was elected to the Board in June 1995 and has served on the executive committee since 1998 as secretary. Hasty is a 1967 graduate of Reinhardt, and he went on to earn degrees from the University of Georgia and the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He currently is the senior partner of the law firm Hasty, Pope and Ball in Canton and has practiced law in Georgia since 1974.
"Mr. Hasty brings to his new role as chairman of the Board of Trustees a deep appreciation for the distinctive qualities of Reinhardt College. He is a living example of the close ties that bind together this very special College and all of Cherokee County. I look forward to being guided by his wisdom as we continue to nurture Reinhardt's growth while we protect and maintain our commitment to its values," said Reinhardt College President Dr. J. Thomas Isherwood.
In addition to himself and his wife, Linda, (a 1990 graduate of Reinhardt), many members of Hasty's family have ties to Reinhardt, and he, his wife and his mother, Mrs. Hazel Hasty honored those ties in August 2005 with a $1.5 million gift to the College's $15 million Capital Campaign -- 'Confirming Our Commitment'. Both Hasty and his wife, Linda, also serve as co-chairs of the Capital Campaign.
Hasty is a member of the Cherokee County Hospital Authority, and the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Board of Directors. He served as a member of the Bank of Canton Board of Directors for 25 years and for several years as a member of the advisory board for Wachovia Bank. He is a charter member of Leadership Cherokee 1988 and a member of Leadership Georgia 1989, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Cherokee County Bar Association. He is a member of the Atlanta Commerce Club, the Phoenix Society of Atlanta, the Atlanta Track Club, the Cherokee County Historical Society, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, the VFW, the Canton Golf Club and the First United Methodist Church of Canton.
