Before a crowd of more than 150, Reinhardt College President Dr. J. Thomas Isherwood proudly announced a $1.5 million donation from William G. "Billy" Hasty Jr., Linda N. Hasty and Mrs. Hazel Wyatt Hasty. The jubilant announcement was made during a reception on August 2, 2005, in the Falany Performing Arts Center on the College's Main Campus in Waleska, Ga.
Isherwood also announced that this $1.5 million pledge is part of the College's new $15 million "Confirming Our Commitment" Capital Campaign. Billy and Linda Hasty are co-chairing the campaign, and Mr. Hasty said they are "very humble and proud to be given this leadership opportunity." The campaign will officially be launched in the winter of 2006.
"We are so very thankful to Billy, Linda and Mrs. Hasty for their generosity to Reinhardt College. They are committed to what we do here at Reinhardt -- they are committed to changing lives," Isherwood said before announcing the generous pledge.
Mr. Hasty spoke of his father, the late William G. Hasty Sr., and his love of Reinhardt College. "As we were growing up, we always heard about Reinhardt College -- my dad cared very, very much for this school. In fact, many members of the Hasty family are Reinhardt alumni, which made the decision to give... a very easy one to make for Linda, my mother Hazel and myself," said Hasty.
Billy, Linda and Mrs. Hasty are natives of Cherokee County and Canton residents.
Reinhardt's Confirming Our Commitment Campaign will have an official kick-off in the winter of 2006. The funds will enhance several scholarship and academic programs, as well as support varied needs including a new student center, renovation of the Burgess Administration Building and endowments for the Falany Performing Arts Center and the Funk Heritage Center. Through early August, campaign gifts and pledges totaled $4.5 million.
