The Reinhardt "family" of students, faculty, staff and friends of the College will gather on Friday, April 21, 2006, to break ground on the new Hasty Student Life Center. The ceremony will begin at Noon, along with a picnic lunch from 11:15 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. on the front lawn of the W. Frank & Evelyn J. Gordy Center.
The naming gift for the center came from William G. "Billy" Hasty Jr., Linda N. Hasty and Hazel W. Hasty, all of Canton, Ga. The Hasty's $1.5 million gift in August 2005 was one of the first made to the College's $15 million Capital Campaign.
"The Hasty Student Life Center is an integral component of our capital campaign, and one of great importance to our students," said Reinhardt President Dr. J. Thomas Isherwood. "This center will benefit our students and community for many years to come."
The Hasty Student Life Center is a 17,000 square foot building containing a 5,000 square foot "green house" room with two stories of glass on three sides offering a panoramic view of campus. Also included in the design are a separate recreation room and TV/movie lounge, a large bookstore, a coffee shop and convenience store, and office space for the student government and student affairs staff. The building will be built adjacent to the Gordy Center.
The architect for the project is Garland Reynolds of Gainesville, Ga. Reynolds also designed Reinhardt's William W. Fincher Jr. & Eunice L. Fincher Visual Arts Center, the F. James & Florrie G. Funk Heritage Center and the Floyd A. & Fay W. Falany Performing Arts Center.
