Jean Champion, who has served Reinhardt
College for more than a decade, recently received the 2007
Reinhardt Bridge Award at the annual Employee Appreciation
Luncheon on April 20. The award is given on a yearly basis to a
staff member in recognition and appreciation of outstanding
service and commitment to the faculty and students of the
College.
Champion came to Reinhardt in August 1996
and currently serves as support services coordinator. She
resides in Marble Hill, Ga.
“I was really honored with winning the
award,” Champion said. “It was a surprise and I’m glad that the
faculty recognized that I do try to help them out, and help them
get on with their day.”
The award, established in 2005 as a formal
way for faculty to express appreciation to a staff member, is
presented by the Reinhardt Faculty Senate and was the idea of
Dr. Theresa L. Ast, associate professor of history. Staff
members are nominated for the honor, and the faculty selects the
recipient. The name of the award recognizes that the winner is
someone who works hard to build “bridges” among students,
faculty, staff and the local community.
“Jean is always efficient,” Dr. Margaret M.
Morlier, associate professor of English and chair of the
Reinhardt Faculty Senate, said. “When we ask her about supplies,
she promptly researches the options to advise us about a range
of costs and qualities. This way, she helps us to purchase the
most cost-effective supplies for the College.
“Jean is always cheerful. She has a smile
and a friendly word for all who come to support services. At
holidays, the mail room is always decorated, which helps to
create a positive working environment for us all.” |
