Dr. Kenneth Wheeler Presented
with Elizabeth Moss Bailey Faculty Mentor Award
Associate
Professor of History Dr. Kenneth Wheeler of Birmingham, Ala.,
received Reinhardt College’s Elizabeth Moss Bailey Faculty
Mentor Award this spring. The award is given out annually to a
faculty member who provides unwavering dedication and commitment
to the students of Reinhardt College.
Awarded by the Students
“This award is especially meaningful to me because it
is awarded by students,” Wheeler explained. “During my years at
Reinhardt I have tried to emulate my senior colleagues as they
cultivate mentoring relationships with students that make
intellectual development a personal and profound experience. It
has always been a pleasure to teach the students of Reinhardt
College, and I'm deeply grateful for the award.”
Outstanding Mentorship
The Elizabeth Moss Bailey Faculty Mentor Award
was created in 2003 by the College’s Student Government
Association (SGA) as an opportunity for recognizing a faculty
member that renders outstanding mentorship to students. The SGA
takes nominations for the honor from students, and then the
members of the Student Senate vote on the faculty recipient. The
award is named for Elizabeth Moss Bailey ’28, a distinguished
alumna and former professor and dean of women who helped create
the work-study program at the College.
“We, as students, readily
acknowledge that many professors are not only astute educators,
but also dear friends, confidants and moreover, mentors,” said
Billy Jones, a senior from Cumming, Ga., and the 2007-08
president of SGA. “Dr. Wheeler takes on all those roles for many
Reinhardt students.”

Wheeler received a bachelor’s degree from Earlham
College in Richmond, Ind., and his master’s and Ph.D. from Ohio

College.
