Reinhardt Welcomes New Vice President for Finance and
Administration
Robert G. McKinnon, Reinhardt’s new vice
president for finance and administration, began his duties at
the College on March 24, 2008. McKinnon replaced James T.
Hakes, who served in the position from August 2004 until his
retirement this past December.
More Than 30 Years of Experience
McKinnon brings to the College more than 30 years of
experience in private higher education. He previously worked at
McKendree University in Lebannon, Ill.; Newberry College in
Newberry, S.C.; Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta; Mercer
University in Macon; and the United States Air Force Academy.
“I believe that we are called to work in higher
education, rather than just accepting it as a job,” he
explained. “I have been impressed with how many people at
Reinhardt espouse that philosophy, and it shows in their daily
activities. When we work together to make things happen, we can
accomplish almost anything that we set out to do.”
He also worked for the international accounting and
consulting firm KPMG Peat Marwick as a partner specializing in
higher education. Along with serving in higher education,
McKinnon is a certified public accountant and information
systems auditor.
Fostering Excellence and
Building Teamwork
“I have worked in a number of different kinds of
institutions and organizations in finance and administration
positions of varying degrees,” said McKinnon. “I hope to blend
my background with those of others at Reinhardt to foster
excellence in all that we strive to accomplish.”
In the short time that he has been at Reinhardt, McKinnon
has already seen what makes Reinhardt different—“the people who
make it a family.” His plans are to support the community of
Reinhardt through his work ethic philosophy of building
“cooperation, teamwork and mutual respect among all members of
the community—students, faculty and staff.”
McKinnon, a resident of Atlanta, enjoys
gardening, listening to classical music and photography. He is a
Vietnam veteran who served as an Air Force officer controlling
air strikes, aerial refueling and search and rescue missions; he
now serves his church, Rehoboth Presbyterian Church in Decatur,
Ga., as an elder. McKinnon and his wife, Nancy, have three grown
children and eight grandchildren.
