Invited to Annual Business Ethics Seminar on March 17, 2008
The community is invited to attend
Reinhardt College’s annual Business Ethics seminar on Monday,
March 17, 2008, from 1- 2:15 p.m. on the upper level of the Hill
Freeman Library and Spruill Learning Center in Waleska, Ga. The
seminar is hosted by the Peter S. Knox Program in Business
Ethics in the McCamish School of Business at Reinhardt and is
open to the public free of charge. The Knox Family Foundation
and the Tull Foundation provides funds for this annual seminar.
Reinhardt alumni Major Vic
West and Lieutenant Bert Love of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s
Office will speak at the event. They will focus on government
business practices as related to ethics. “Basically, we will
cover purchasing, government contracts, special relationships
with vendors, employee selection and ethical decision-making,”
West said.
Reinhardt Associate Professor of Business
Dr. Bonnie E. Garson is planning the seminar and said she
expects the audience to gain a greater understanding of how
business decisions can be made in an ethical framework.
West has been in law
enforcement for 30 years, 24 of which have been in Cherokee
County. He has served as the narcotics unit commander, criminal
investigations division commander, and is currently field
operations commander. In this role, he is responsible for all
law enforcement operations provided by the sheriff's office,
including the Uniform Patrol Division, the Criminal
Investigations Division, the Violent Crimes Division, the
Traffic Enforcement Unit, the agency SWAT Team and Negotiations
Team. Field Operations has eight precincts located throughout
the county with just over 200 officers.
West is a member of the Georgia Association
of Chief of Police, Cherokee County of Commerce, and the
Cherokee County Department of Family and Children Services Board
of Directors. He is also a 1998 graduate of the FBI National
Academy.
He has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication
from Reinhardt College and a Masters in Public Administration
from Columbus State University, and currently serves as an
adjunct instructor at Columbus State instructing in the Georgia
Law Enforcement Command College.
Love was valedictorian of
both his graduating classes at Reinhardt College. He earned and
associate degree in criminal justice in 1996 and a Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration in 2001. He currently
attends Columbus State University where he will receive a
Master’s in Public Administration. He has been employed with
the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office for 17 years and is currently
assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division, where he
manages the property crimes, white collar crimes, and high tech
crime units. He is married with one child.
