Tony Campbell has been added to the Reinhardt College athletic department as an assistant men’s basketball coach. He will assist second-year Reinhardt head coach Jeffrey Pourchier with directing the Eagles basketball program.
Campbell came to Reinhardt after serving one season as an assistant coach at Truett-McConnell College, a four-year institution in Cleveland, Ga. In 2007-08, he helped guide the Bears to a 21-11 overall record.
Before becoming a coach, Campbell was a three-year letterman at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Ga., after spending one season at then NCAA Division II Kennesaw (Ga.) State University. He helped lead Georgia Southwestern to the 2005 NAIA national tournament as a sophomore before playing on the school’s first team at the NCAA Division II level in 2006-07. A versatile player, Campbell started at four different positions during his career at GSSU.
“This is a great opportunity for me,” Campbell said. “I’m really excited about the upcoming year to see what we can do.”
Some of Campbell’s primary responsibilities include recruiting, scouting, and coordinating the Eagles’ weight training and physical conditioning program. He replaces Bryce Brickhouse, who took a similar position at Southern States Athletic Conference foe Shorter College.
Campbell received his bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southwestern in 2008. Originally from Brunswick, Ga., he grew up in Marietta and is a 2001 graduate of Sprayberry High School.
