Leigh Wintter has been added to the Reinhardt College athletic department as an assistant softball coach. She will assist second-year Reinhardt head coach Glen Crawford with directing the Lady Eagles softball program.
Wintter came to Reinhardt after being at NCAA Division I Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. She served as a volunteer graduate assistant at Marshall the past two seasons after earning four letters there as a player from 2003-06.
As a player with the Thundering Herd, Wintter was a four-year starter at third base who earned scholar-athlete honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association all four seasons. She ranks among MU’s career leaders in home runs (27), doubles (39), RBIs (126), total bases (276), games played (226) and at-bats (640). During her four years, Marshall posted a 143-87 overall record, including 67-29 in conference games. The Herd claimed Mid-American Conference regular season championships in 2003 and 2005 before moving into Conference USA in 2006. Wintter was a Second Team All-MAC performer in 2005 and capped off her career by being selected to the 2006 Conference USA All-Tournament Team.
“One thing led to another and here I am,” Wintter said. “I’m excited about being here and excited about the upcoming year to see what this program is all about.”
Wintter received her bachelor’s degree in physical education and master’s in athletic administration from Marshall in 2006 and 2008, respectively. She is from nearby Acworth, Ga., and is a 2002 graduate of North Cobb High School.
Besides Wintter, Crawford also announced that former Reinhardt players Shastin Rader and Whitney Fagge have been added to his staff. Both were players for the Lady Eagles from 2005-08. Rader, from Palmetto, Fla., will serve as an assistant coach and Fagge, from Gainesville, Ga., as a student assistant.
