Alexander Named All-Conference While Sutton Earns Spot on SSAC All-Freshman Team for Men's Basketball
Two members of the 2008-09 Reinhardt College men's basketball team were honored with postseason awards from the Southern States Athletic Conference on Wednesday night. In a vote of the 10 SSAC head coaches, Reinhardt's Kordel Alexander was selected to the 16-member all-conference squad while Donterius Sutton earned a spot on the six-player SSAC All-Freshman Team.
Alexander (right), a 5-foot-11 junior guard from Pensacola, Fla., led the Eagles in scoring (15.3 points per game), field goals made (143), three-point field goals made (80), free throw percentage (80-of-89 for 89.9 percent), minutes (32.3 per game) and starts (29) this past season. He scored in double figures in 22-of-30 games with a career-high 28 points on three occasions.
Sutton (left), a 6-foot-1 guard from Austell, Ga., averaged 8.1 points and a team-leading 3.2 assists per contest. He played in 26 games with 17 starts, scoring in double digits nine times in the final 19 contests. Sutton concluded his first collegiate season by tossing in a career- and game-best 21 points in an SSAC loss at Berry College on Feb. 28.
Reinhardt finished its 2008-09 campaign with a 9-21 overall record, including 2-16 in conference play.
