Five Reinhardt Softball Players Receive Honors from SSAC

Several members of the 2009 Reinhardt College softball team were honored with postseason awards from the Southern States Athletic Conference on Wednesday night. In a vote of the eight SSAC head coaches, Reinhardt had two First Team All-SSAC performers and three more players named second team all-conference.

Garnering First Team All-SSAC honors for Reinhardt were Casey Hollifield (pictured at top), a senior shortstop from Dallas, Ga., and Nicole Rice (pictured second from top), a junior outfielder out of Douglasville, Ga. Entering the SSAC Tournament, Hollifield had started all 48 games with a .280 batting average, and was leading the Lady Eagles in at-bats (161), runs scored (30), triples (four) and stolen bases (22 in 23 attempts). Hollifield, also a first team all-conference pick in 2007, leads the SSAC in stolen bases with 0.46 per game and is second with 0.08 triples a game. Rice, a first team all-conference selection last year and an outstanding defensive outfielder, went into the SSAC Tournament hitting .257 while leading the team in walks (13) and sacrifice hits (nine).

Becca Jones (pictured in middle), a freshman pitcher/first baseman from Junction City, Ga.; Alex Riccardi (pictured second from bottom), a junior pitcher/outfielder out of Americus, Ga.; and freshman Andrea Thibaudeau (pictured at bottom), a freshman outfielder from Cartersville, Ga., each received second team all-conference accolades. Jones finished the regular season with a 14-10 pitching record, three saves and a 2.27 ERA, leading the club in wins, saves, innings pitched (141 2/3) and strikeouts (55). Riccardi was 12-6 with a 2.72 ERA in the circle while batting .258 at the plate. Thibaudeau started all 48 contests during the regular year, hitting .309 while pacing Reinhardt in hits (47), doubles (10), home runs (three), total bases (70) and sacrifice flies (four).

Lady Eagles Season
The Lady Eagles ended the regular season at 28-20 overall and in fifth place in the conference standings at 17-15. Reinhardt is currently taking part in the SSAC Tournament, which is being hosted by Shorter College in Rome, Ga.
