Naylor Honored with Reinhardt College's 2008- 09 Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award
Dr. Robert Driscoll, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College, congratulates Susan E. Naylor, associate professor of music, on receiving the 2008-09 Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence Award. . The award is presented to a faculty member at each of the Georgia Foundation for Independent Colleges, Inc. 25-member institutions in recognition of outstanding contributions to undergraduate education, student learning, and campus life.
Reinhardt College Associate Professor of Music Susan E. Naylor was recently honored with the annual Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence Award. Naylor received the prestigious award for 2008-09 during a Faculty Senate meeting on April 14, 2009.
Vulcan's Southeast Division has sponsored the teaching excellence award since the early 1990s through the Georgia Foundation for Independent Colleges, Inc. The award is presented to a faculty member at each of the GFIC's 25-member institutions, in recognition of outstanding contributions to undergraduate education, student learning, and campus life.
Honored and Humbled
"I feel honored, humbled, and ecstatic to be recognized as an excellent teacher among so many excellent teachers," said Naylor, who has taught at the College more than 33 years. "Along with challenges, the students in the music department bring joy and delight to my life. I can't imagine a more rewarding and fulfilling vocation."
Naylor's successful teaching career began after she graduated from Georgia State University in May 1975 and started at Reinhardt the following September.
Next year, in addition to teaching a full load of courses, Naylor will also take on administrative responsibilities as the Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies for Music. After gaining state and national recognition last year, the Reinhardt Collegiate Chapter of Music Teachers National Association, Naturally Sharp, will present a comedy recital for the North Dekalb Music Teachers Association; As the advisor for that group, Naylor will begin working this summer with the student members to organize the event.
Naylor also serves as the pianist for the Lake Arrowhead Chapel. She resides in the Lake Arrowhead community of Waleska, Ga.Return to Previous Page
