Mason Currie, from Alpharetta, Ga., has signed an athletic grant-in-aid to attend Reinhardt College in the fall and play for the Eagles' first-year men's lacrosse program in 2010 under head coach Binz Hansen. Currie, the team's first signee, will come to Reinhardt from South Forsyth High School in Cumming, Ga., where he played for head coach Josh Hawkins.
"I am excited that Mason has chosen to play for Reinhardt," Hansen said. "I believe he has the potential to be an exceptional defender in these next couple of years. Mason will be a key piece in the future success of Reinhardt's program."
High School Stats
Currie, the son of David and Mary Currie, was part of the South Forsyth defense the past three seasons. As a senior, Currie was voted as a team captain by his teammates and helped lead the War Eagles to a 10-8 overall record and No. 23 ranking in the state, just missing a playoff berth. In 2009, he was named All-League by the Georgia High School Coaches Council, a local chapter of US Lacrosse. A fine all-around student-athlete, Currie also earned varsity letters in football and wrestling while at SFHS. As a junior, he received the football team's Blue Badge of Courage Award.
"Starting something from scratch is a big thing," Currie said. "I hope the team turns out to be a really good, that's what I want it to be. It's a nice campus and the education will definitely be there. I can't wait to get playing."
