Reinhardt, a United Methodist-affiliated institution, hosted its annual United Methodist Scholarship Golf Outing on Tuesday, May 19 at Big Canoe. The event raised more than $25,000, with proceeds supporting scholarships for Reinhardt students who are United Methodist and those who are pursuing a full-time career in the ministry.
"One of our strongest selling points for support of the golf outing is that 100 percent of every dollar raised goes directly to student scholarships," said the Rev. Dr. Ron Flowers, golf tournament chairman and Northside United Methodist Church associate pastor. "The success of the golf outing is certainly due to the hard work of the College staff and the support of the local churches and ministers. People know a good cause when they see it, and they want to support it and make a difference in the lives of these outstanding students."
The top awards for the tournament went to two teams. The team of Malone Dooson (from left), Joe Bowen, Roger Gilmore and Jim Boswell (not pictured), who represented Roswell United Methodist Church located in Roswell, Ga., won the traveling trophy awarded to the "First Low Net" team. The award for "First Low Gross" went to the team of Louis Brown, and E.R. Mitchell, David Walters and Ron Natson (not pictured) from Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Ga. Twenty-three United Methodist churches were represented at the golf outing.
Continued Support for Reinhardt Students
"Players participate, year after year, partly because we provide a fun and competitive tournament," said Flowers, "but more importantly because they want to support the students and the College in some meani ngful way!"
