The Reinhardt College men’s and women’s basketball programs held a Thanksgiving canned food drive to benefit MUST Ministries of Cherokee County (Ga.) on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2009, when the two teams played their first home games of the 2008-09 seasons.
The basketball coaches suggested the food drive, and Athletic Operations Manager Steve Ruthsatz said he thought the effort would be well received. “I figured that the response would be great, and it was. Reinhardt Athletics and its basketball programs are more than happy to help members of the community through MUST Cherokee,” he said.
Reinhardt President Dr. J. Thomas Isherwood was also impressed by the number of donations. “It’s really nice to see our coaches, student athletes and students be multidimensional. Not only are they motivated on the court and in the classroom, but they are also interested and caring about reaching out and helping in our community. You’ll find that caring spirit exhibited often around the Reinhardt campus.”
Reinhardt won both games in the Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader against Southern Wesleyan University. Students, parents, faculty, staff and visitors who brought canned goods received a free Reinhardt Basketball T-shirt.
MUST Cherokee was established in 1998 and is located in Canton, Ga. MUST Cherokee currently serves those in need in our community with a food pantry, a clothing closet, financial assistance, translation assistance, and housing and seasonal programming.
