Reinhardt College freshman softball players Lindsey Booker and Maddie Monroe have been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their play from March 22-28. It marks the first time Booker has earned the award while Monroe has received the weekly conference honor twice this season.
Booker (right), a 5-foot-2 shortstop/outfielder from Americus, Ga., hit .571 with five runs scored, three stolen bases and an RBI from her leadoff spot as Reinhardt went 4-0 last week. In an AAC doubleheader sweep over the University of Virginia's College at Wise, she went 5-for-8 with three stolen bases, an RBI and two runs scored, including the game-winner in the Lady Eagles' 2-1, eight-inning victory in game two.
Despite missing 15 games because of an injury, Booker is batting .448 with a .569 slugging percentage this season. She is tied for the team lead with two triples.
A 5-foot-7 pitcher/first baseman out of Calhoun, Ga., Monroe pitched in three contests last week, posting a 3-0 record and a 0.45 ERA. She allowed one run in 15 2/3 innings, striking out 25 and walking just one. Monroe threw two complete games, including a shutout against King College. She also picked up both wins vs. UVA-Wise.
Monroe began her collegiate career with a perfect game and is 12-2 on the season with a 0.77 ERA. She has 11 complete games and has tossed seven shutouts. In 90 2/3 innings of work, Monroe has allowed just 56 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 121 and walking only six. Opponents are batting .171 against her.
Lady Eagles' Standings
Reinhardt is off to its best start ever at 24-7 overall, including 5-1 in the AAC. The Lady Eagles, who received 55 votes in the latest NAIA poll to rank 28th nationally, are at Covenant College on Tuesday for a conference doubleheader.
