Bobby EplingFaces of Reinhardt: Meet Bobby Epling

Job title: Sport Studies Coordinator

What I really do: Stay pretty busy heading up the Physical Education Department and the Sport Studies Program ... scheduling, teaching, advising, etc.

Years at Reinhardt: 10 years total, spanning three different times

I came to Reinhardt because: first time to coach, second time because of location, third time because of the people and campus atmosphere

One thing I would change about Reinhardt: I think students would enjoy a swimming facility again

I was born in: Dover Air Force Base, Delaware

People describe me as: quiet maybe ... not sure, how about burly

Most colleagues don't know that: I am not involved in athletics, other than as faculty rep

Favorite things to do: Spend time with family, travel, and read

Favorite quote: "Never let schooling interfere with your education" (or something close to that by Mark Twain)

Proudest accomplishment so far: Happily married for twenty-two years and father of a wonderful son

Pet peeve: I dislike being late for anything

Best advice ever received: A faculty member at Georgia encouraged me to pursue a doctoral degree because "they can never take it away from you" ... so far nobody has

Best advice for new faculty and staff: Don't get so caught up in your work that you fail to enjoy what you are doing

What I most want to contribute to students: To help them realize the many opportunities available to them

The book everyone should read: Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose (about the Lewis and Clark Expedition) or The Civil War volumes by Shelby Foote

The movie everyone should watch: the Lonesome Dove television miniseries

The person dead or alive I'd most like to meet: George Washington ... America's greatest leader

The place I'd love to travel to: Normandy, France, to see the D-Day landing sites

Although you didn't ask, I'd like to tell you anyway: working with college students is the best "job" in the world, but you probably already knew that
