Reinhardt University Celebrates Recent Name Change with "Hot" Event
Reinhardt University's recent name change is hot news, and students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members will celebrate this special time in the institution's history by celebrating with a special event. "Reinhardt University is Hot News" on August 28 will welcome some "hot" activities to mark the occasion including a hot air balloon, a hot rod cruise-in, a hot dog dinner and more!
"Although the official name change was on June 1, 2010, we waited to plan a celebration for everyone, faculty, staff and alumni included, when students would be back because students are the heart of the University, and we want them to join the celebration and join in on our excitement!" said JoEllen Wilson, vice president for Institutional Advancement and External Affairs. "Our "hot" event will be from 4-6:30 p.m. on the University's intramural field, which is located in front of the James and Sis Brown Athletic Center. We invite you to join us!"
The "hot" day begins with the Lady Eagles soccer team as they open their fall season. Cheer on the team beginning at 4 p.m. on the University's soccer field. Adjacent to the game on the lacrosse field, a tethered hot air balloon will soar high in the sky to announce Reinhardt's new name.
View some beautiful vintage automobiles during the Hot Rod Cruise-In hosted by a group of local car enthusiasts. Then be sure to check out the Waleska Farmer's Market, which will feature area gardeners and craftsmen who have "hot" items for sale.
Get your taste buds ready! A Hot Chili Cook-Off, which is open to anyone who would like to participate, will be judged at 4 p.m., and the winners will be announced at 5 p.m. After the "hot" chili tasting, enjoy a Hot Dog Dinner under the dinner tent for $5 (students, faculty and staff free with ID).
Listen in at 5 p.m. as President Dr. J. Thomas Isherwood addresses the crowd, and then, with select local dignitaries, officially dedicates Reinhardt's new name with an honorary ribbon cutting.
Finally, cool off from the "hot" day with a performance by the HOTlanta Dixeland Jazz at 7:30 p.m. in the Falany Performing Arts Center. Reserved tickets are required: $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and children 12 and under. Call 770-720-9167 for more information.
