Reinhardt University tennis players Nick Draghiceanu and Mandy Renta were each named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men’s tennis and women’s tennis, respectively, for their play from April 18-24. It marks the first time for each to earn the weekly conference honor.
Draghiceanu, a 6-foot, 170-pound freshman from Canton, Ga., helped lead Reinhardt to a 7-2 AAC win over Bluefield College in the Eagles’ only match last week. He picked up victories at both No. 2 doubles (8-0) and No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0) without losing a set.
In his first season, Draghiceanu has played in all 13 matches for Reinhardt.
A 5-foot-9 junior out of Woodstock, Ga., Renta led the Lady Eagles to an 8-1 conference triumph against Bluefield in their lone match last week. She tallied wins at both No. 1 doubles (8-0) and the top singles position (6-1, 6-0), losing just one set during her two victories.
Renta has competed in all 10 matches for Reinhardt this year.
The Eagles are 3-10 overall while the Reinhardt women’s team is 2-8. Both squads finished 1-3 in AAC matches and begin play in their respective NAIA Unaffiliated Group Tournaments this Friday in Chattanooga, Tenn.
