Reinhardt University baseball players Tucker Adams and Zach Cagle were named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their play from March 19-25. It marks the first time both Adams and Cagle have earned the respective weekly conference honors. Softball player Haley Brannon was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for her play from March 19-25. It marks the first time Brannon has earned the weekly conference honor.
Adams, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound sophomore outfielder from Canton, Ga., batted .545 (6-for-11) with a home run, double, five runs scored and four RBIs as Reinhardt went 2-0 last week, outscoring its opponents 25-6. He had three hits in each of the two games, posting a .909 slugging percentage.
On the season, Adams has played in 27 games with 25 starts. He is hitting .365 with 19 runs scored, 14 RBIs, three stolen base, a .447 slugging percentage and .400 on-base percentage. Within the AAC, Adams ranks 16th in batting average.
A 6-foot, 170-pound freshman also out of Canton, Ga., Cagle started and pitched seven innings for the win in the Eagles’ 12-4 AAC victory at Virginia Intermont College. In his only appearance last week, he allowed two earned runs with four strikeouts and two walks.
Cagle has pitched in 10 contests this season with two starts. He has posted a 3-1 record, tying for the team lead in wins, with a save and 2.52 ERA. Over 25 innings, Cagle has struck out 25 and walked eight. In the conference, Cagle is tied for ninth in wins.
Brannon, a 5-foot-9 freshman pitcher/outfielder from Canton, Ga., went 2-0 in her two pitching appearances last week, one as a starter and the other in relief. Over 11.2 innings, she allowed just one earned run for a 0.60 ERA, striking out seven and walking just one. In Reinhardt’s 1-0 AAC win over Tennessee Wesleyan College, Brannon pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout.
On the season, Brannon has pitched in nine contests with six starts, five complete games and three shutouts. She has a 6-1 record and 2.56 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 13 walks in 54 2/3 innings.
Within the AAC, Brannon ranks tied for fifth in wins, seventh in ERA, tied for eighth in strikeouts and ninth in opponents’ batting average (.260).
The Lady Eagles have a 19-8 overall record and are 3-1 in the AAC. Reinhardt hosts a conference doubleheader with the Point University Lady Skyhawks on Tuesday. The first contest is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Ken White Softball Field.
