Three Student-Athletes Earn AAC Weekly Honors

Reinhardt men’s tennis player Andrew Cobb and women’s tennis player Cassie Quast were each named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week, respectively, for their play from April 2-8. It marks the first time Cobb has earned the weekly conference honor while Quast has received the award twice.

Softball player Maddie Monroe was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for her play from April 2-8. It marks the eighth time in her career that Monroe has earned the weekly conference honor, including three times this season.

Quast and CobbCobb Stats

Cobb, a 5-foot-9, 225-pound junior from LaFayette, Ga., went 1-1 at No. 2 doubles and 1-1 at No. 3 singles as Reinhardt played two non-conference matches on the road last week. His losses came against opponents from Shorter University, which is ranked 25th nationally in the NAIA. On the season, Cobb is 5-4 in singles and 4-5 in doubles.

Quast Stats

A 5-foot-5 sophomore out of Chatsworth, Ga., Quast posted a 1-1 record at the top doubles position and the same mark at No. 2 singles as the Lady Eagles also played two non-conference matches away from home in the past week. Her losses also came against players from Shorter, which is rated No. 13 nationally in the latest NAIA poll. Quast is 6-4 in singles and 4-6 in doubles this year.

Team Standings

The Reinhardt men’s team is 2-7 overall and 1-0 in the AAC while the Lady Eagles are 2-8 overall, including 0-1 in conference play. Both Reinhardt squads play non-conference matches at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Friday. The matches are scheduled for 4 p.m. in Wise, Va.

Softball player Maddie Monroe was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for her play from April 2-8. It marks the eighth time in her career that Monroe has earned the weekly conference honor, including three times this season.

Monroe, a 5-foot-8 junior pitcher from Calhoun, Ga., made just one appearance last week but pitched a complete-game shutout in Reinhardt’s 3-0 AAC win over Virginia Intermont College. She allowed no hits over 6 1/3 innings and ended up with a one-hitter in the victory. Monroe struck out 10 and walked one as Virginia Intermont batted just .050 (1-for-20) against her.           

Monroe leads the Lady Eagles in almost every statistical pitching category, including appearances (19), innings pitched (120), starts (17), complete games (16), wins (13), shutouts (nine), ERA (1.23), strikeouts (132) and opponents’ batting average (.193). She has a 13-5 record and has walked just 19.           

Within the AAC, Monroe ranks first in strikeouts per game (9.90), second in strikeouts, second in ERA, tied for second in wins, third in opponents’ batting average and fifth in innings pitched. On the national level, she is tied for 13th in strikeouts, tied for 22nd in wins, 23rd in ERA and 28th in innings pitched.          

Team Standings

Reinhardt has a 25-8 overall record and is 9-1 in the AAC. The Lady Eagles are at Montreat College for a conference doubleheader on Monday. The first contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Montreat, N.C.
