Students rehearse for Much Ado About Nothing, showing Feb. 20-23, at the Downtown Canton Theatre.
The Reinhardt University Theatre Program is thrilled to return to the historic Downtown Canton Theatre to present Much Ado About Nothing, Feb 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m. The production is dedicated to the late Dr. Kevin Crawford, former Reinhardt professor of English and theatre. Tickets are available at the Theatre Box Office on each show day.
This comedy adaptation, set in 1958, features a feuding family, two couples—one in love, one not so much, the mob, and even Elvis! In the place of swords and tights, are dark suits, vintage dresses and pistols.
“The comedy is rip-roaring and the drama is emotionally stirring,” said Kathy Newman, director. “If you’re a Shakespeare purest this may not be for you; however, if you want to have fun and be moved, in the flavor of the 50s, then this show is definitely for you!
“Oh the language you say…no I haven’t rewritten Shakespeare, the words are still his, but I think anyone who has struggled with Ole’ Shakes in the past (and frankly who hasn’t) will find this version refreshing and much more relatable. This was, for me, a challenge and even bigger desire in directing this show, to make it easy to understand and as wickedly funny and as terribly dramatic as I think Shakes himself meant for it to be!”
