How to Earn Credit for Your Work Experience (Experiential Learning Credits)

If you have been in the workforce for a number of years, you have gained experience that may earn you college credits toward your degree.

By working with one of our staff and/or faculty through the Experiential Learning Credit Process, you may be able to earn credits for up to two college courses.

bullet

Register for and attend the experiential learning seminar.

The seminar provides a realistic and practical approach to creating a portfolio for Experiential Learning Credit.  It explains how to do a self-inventory on knowledge and skills, how to match learning with a Reinhardt College course, and how to assemble a portfolio. This includes writing a narrative and providing appropriate documentation.  The seminar also provides information on the steps in the assessment process and the resources available to students.

  • Attendance is mandatory for all students submitting portfolios.

  • Seminar is offered at the North Fulton Center during Fall and Spring semesters.

  • You will be advised regarding credits required for your degree program and how they fit with portfolio assessment.

bullet

  • Cost of experiential learning credit is one-half the regular tuition fee and is due upon submission of the portfolio.  Payment of fee does not guarantee credit.

  • Deadlines for submission are January 15 and August 15.

  • Students will submit portfolios to Donna Hunt at the North Fulton Center.

  • Students will submit two copies of the portfolio. One is returned to the student, and one is kept at the North Fulton Center.

bullet

Faculty assessors read your portfolio(s).

  • Assessor has two weeks to review the portfolio and advise on credit.

  • An oral interview is optional and would be used in cases where the amount of credit is in question and /or the assessor needs additional information.

bullet

Credit is assigned.

  • Class credit will be noted as earned through experiential learning.

  • If you are not satisfied with the number of hours credited or with the decision reached, you may re-submit a portfolio a maximum of three times. Appeals will be handled through the normal appeal process.

Portfolio Components

A completed portfolio contains:

  • An application for credit

  • Table of contents

  • Undated resume

  • Cover letter
