Palestinian-Arab parents, The Rev. Dr. Fahed Abu-Akel is a Presbyterian pastor who was the
moderator of the 214th
General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Southeastern
College in Lakeland, Fla., followed by his Master of Divinity from the
Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta and his Doctor of Ministry
from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Ill.
Some of Abu - Akel's accolades include service to the church as a member of the
Outreach Foundation Board of Trustees, vice chair of the advocacy committee for racial ethnic concerns, the
director of the National Christmas International House Program in 40
cities, a National Middle Eastern Ministries Committee member and
the leader of Mission trips that have journeyed from Kenya, Haiti,
Brazil, Egypt, Israel and Palestine.
Abu - Akel is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian
Church and serves at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Ga.
He is also founder and executive director of the Atlanta
ministry with International Students Inc. Other accolades
include delivering the Invocation
for the 2002 Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Birthday Celebration,
being awarded Man of the Year by the National Presbyterian Men
Organization in 2003, participating in Peacemaking and Mission
Conferences and contributing to the Interfaith advisory task
force for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. |
