English Studies
Major/Minor
The College Core Curriculum
Students must complete English 101 and 102 with a grade of C (2.0) or better before taking any other English courses.
The College core curriculum also requires one 200-level English course.
English Major
The Bachelor of Arts in English requires 39 hours of courses (21 hours at the 300/400 level) beyond the college core curriculum, allowing a student 26 hours of electives that can be used to purse a minor in another discipline--like Communications, Music, or Business.
Students should select at least two courses in British Literature, two courses in American Literature and one course in World Literature or Multicultural Literature.
Students distribute the 39 hours as follows:
At least seven 300/400 level English courses (21 hours);
Up to four 200 level English courses (12 hours); and
At least two Interdisciplinary LST 301 courses (6 hours).
Students must receive a grade of C (2.0) or better in all courses in the English Major.
English Minor
Students with other majors can pursue their love of literature and develop the strong writing and analytical skills that distinguish students of English. In the English minor, students take a total of 15 credit hours in English.
Two courses may be at the 200 level and three courses must be at the 300/400 level.
Students must take at least one course in British Literature, one course in American Literature and one course in World or Multicultural Literature.
The English Minor pairs well with several majors including Communications, History, and even Business.
