The sociology program at Reinhardt opens your eyes to reality and opens doors for your future. You will have opportunities to experience the world and the resources to develop your skills and knowledge for a career in sociology.
Three Career Concentrations
As a major, you can choose from three areas to specialize:
Each area shares a core of classes, including theory and research methods, and then in your concentration, the classes are tailored to best prepare you for a career or for further education in graduate school.
Top Students in the Country
The sociology program at Reinhardt is known on campus and across the country for its exacting standards, and these expectations produce results. For the past three years, students have scored in the top 20 percent in the country on their Major Field Placement Tests.
You will have access to ICPSR (Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Science)—the world's largest archive of social science data—for use in research and instruction. The program also offers an SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) lab, which prepares students to obtain highly marketable skills in statistics.
World Experiences As a sociology major, you will be encouraged to do an internship in your field of interest; the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and Center for Domestic Violence are just a few of the places students have interned. As a part of several sociology classes, you may get the chance to visit local jails, prisons and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
"Sociology majors are considering careers that deal with very difficult situations, whether it's law enforcement, social work or even business," explained Dr. Donald Gregory, associate professor of sociology and sociology program coordinator. "They've got to learn to be able to work with reality."
The sociology faculty doesn't sugar-coat reality for students; they will open your eyes to it. You will be exposed to concepts, ideas and social justice issues that you may not always agree with; however, the faculty seeks to challenge you to be a leader in your personal, as well as your professional life.
Get your reality-check in the sociology program at Reinhardt. A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Sociology offers students the world and more. For more information, contact Gregory at DG2@reinhardt.edu or 770-720-5978.

After graduating, Melissa spent a year in Europe working and traveling with the Roma—also referred to as Gypsies. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in public administration.
