Commencement '17



Line-up for Baccalaureate is at 6:30 PM in the Falany Performing Arts Center.  This is a religious ceremony celebrating the accomplishments of our graduates.  Baccalaureate begins at 7:00 PM.  Please wear academic regalia (no caps).

For those who may choose to do so, There will be a live stream of the complete commencement held in Flint Hall at the Falany Performing Arts Center.
Umbrellas will not be permitted at seating on the field. However, a limited number of light rain ponchos will be available while they last.

·         Stage Party: Please gather inside the Isherwood Fieldhouse at 9:15 AM

·         Faculty : Please gather inside the Isherwood Fieldhouse at 9:15 AM.

·         Students: Please gather inside the Ken White Hitting Facility, near the softball field at 8:30 AM.

More than 300 students are preparing to walk across the stage to receive their hard-earned degrees this spring. Reinhardt University is proud to announce its Spring 2017 Commencement Ceremony to be held May 5, 2017, at 10 a.m.

Several activities will precede the Commencement Ceremony, including rehearsal, a student reception and Baccalaureate. Rehearsal will take place Thursday, May 4, 2017, at 3 p.m. (arrive no later than 2:30 p.m.), at the Ken White Indoor Athletic Facility. Baccalaureate is scheduled for Thursday, May 4, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. at the Falany Performing Arts Center Concert Hall. 

This year’s keynote speaker during the Commencement Ceremony will be Dr. Belle S. Wheelan, Ph.D.  Student speakers to be announced.

Keynote Speaker

Belle S. Wheelan, Ph.D.

Dr. Wheelan currently serves as President of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is the first African American and the first woman to serve in this capacity.  Her career spans over 40 years and includes the roles of faculty member, chief student services officer, campus provost, college president and Secretary of Education.  In several of those roles she was the first African American and/or woman to serve in those capacities.

Dr. Wheelan received her Bachelor’s degree from Trinity University in Texas  (1972) with a double major in Psychology and Sociology; her Master’s from Louisiana State University (1974) in Developmental Educational Psychology; and her Doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin (1984) in Educational Administration with a special concentration in community college leadership.  

Dr. Wheelan attributes her success to hard work, endurance, tenacity, and being in the right place at the right time.  She recognizes that prayer and support from family and friends make anything possible.

Dr. Wheelan is the mother of an adult son named Reginald.


Details for the 2017 Spring Commencement:

Commencement Processional:  Line-up will begin in the Ken White Indoor Athletic Facility promptly at 8:30 a.m.  You will march in and sit alphabetically with your school—School of Arts & Humanities, McCamish School of Business, Price School of Education,  School of Mathematics and Sciences, School of Performing Arts, and School of Professional Studies. 

Guest admission to the commencement area: We anticipate seating for up to eight (8) guest per graduate.  Please advise your guests to arrive no later than 9 a.m. to allow time for seating prior to the start of the ceremony.  Commencement will begin at 10 a.m.  *Note: The ceremony will be available for viewing via the internet at

Parking:  Reinhardt’s Office of Public Safety and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office will assist with parking and traffic flow. Graduating students should park in the Funk Heritage Center and East Hall lots.  Your guests may park in any available parking space on campus with exception of designated handicap spaces, fire lanes, and the gym parking lot which is reserved.  Space is limited, so please encourage carpooling.

Handicapped/Disabled parking:  If you or your guest(s) currently have a state-approved handicapped parking pass, you will not need an additional one from Reinhardt University.  If you or your guest(s) need this accommodation but do not already possess a state-approved pass, please contact the Office of Public Safety at 770-720-5789.

As you know, Commencement on the field is a new experience for us.  Because it is new, all who are processing will rehearse on Wednesday, May 3.  See specific times below.  (We have changed the time from May 4 to May 3 due to impending heavy rain and storms that are predicted for Thursday).

 Last Hurrah

The Office of Student Affairs is hosting a “Last Hurrah” for our graduating seniors; this will be held directly after rehearsal at 7:00 PM in the Isherwood Fieldhouse.
