University Nurse - Part Time

Reinhardt University seeks to educate the whole person by developing the intellectual, social, personal, vocational, spiritual/moral, and physical dimensions of its students.  As a critical member of the Student Affairs team, the University Nurse works autonomously to provide health services to the general population of campus students.

Working with minimal direction base upon written policies and procedures, as well as stated objectives and goals, this position is accountable for providing quality non-emergency health care and consultation to the Reinhardt community. When necessary, this position serves as liaison between student and local health resources.  The University Nurse as well partners with professional staff, campus colleagues, members of the faculty, and students to promote health and disease prevention through on-going wellness education programs.

This responsibility is achieved by effectively planning and implementing achievable health care service goals and objectives, demonstrating values and behaviors of a health care professional through daily interactions, developing and maintaining, managing and reporting on budget, actively participating on appropriate committees, creating and facilitating meaningful training workshops, and keeping up-to-date on associated administrative duties and advances in related technologies in order to implement continuous improvement to processes and systems.

Challenges encountered by this position may include being comfortable diagnosing and treating minor illnesses and injuries with the benefit of a second opinion from an associate, balancing the need for on-going awareness and education on health issues with budget allocations, and ensuring a sterile and safe work environment.

The University Nurse role is an integral component to the success of the Student Affairs Division.  Therefore, attendance for this position is generally required at 20 hours per week, usually during normal business hours 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and occasional evenings for special programming events.  The job is a nine (9) month position coinciding with the Academic Calendar.  As determined by project deadlines and seasonal workload, this position may occasionally require overtime and travel.


 Provide consistent high quality non-emergency health care services to the Reinhardt community.  

 Work daily with students, parents, physicians, staff and faculty, and frequently with other members of the medical community in order to:

○  Diagnose and treat non-emergency minor injuries and illnesses

○  Refer patients for additional treatment and/or assessment.

○  Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely health care records

○  Judiciously monitor budget in a manner that allows for financial audits and timely reporting.

○  Continue to build knowledge and awareness of developments in the health care profession to      help the Division improve efficiency and effectiveness.

○  As necessary, in a timely manner communicate health care concerns and issues to the supervisor that may impact the greater Reinhardt population.

○  Act as liaison between the University and public health agencies for the reporting and tracking of special health care situations.

○  Maintain a safe and sterile work environment with special care taken for disposing of biochemical wastes.

Periodically review and revise clinical policies, procedures and patient care instructions.  Work with members of the health care profession and administrators in order to:

○  Provide knowledgeable and reasonable guidelines for handling health care situations.

○  Promote and instill the image and values of Reinhardt University in the quality and manner of providing health care services, maintaining confidential records, and providing follow-up care.

On an on-going basis, coordinate, create, and/or facilitate the sharing of health care information through the Wellness Program established for students and staff.

○  Remain current on health care issues of interest to students.

○  Coordinate speakers.

○  Develop and coordinate the announcement for Wellness Program schedules.

○  Serve as a team members to Counseling, Residential Life and Student Activities.

As appropriate, this position may be required to perform other functions associated with the day-to-day operations of the university as assigned by his/her supervisor.


Educational degree in Nursing

Nurse Practitioner with unencumbered license in the State of Georgia (LPN or RN may be considered)

3-5 Years of nursing experience, preferably in direct contact with patient needs

Familiar with computer, internet and medical software applications

Well-developed knowledge of health care policies and procedures, and medical regulation

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills

Excellent problem-solving skills

Ability to stand for periods at a time, move around freely and see, hear and communicate well with patients

Salary:                                   $24.70/hour (part-time, w/o benefits)
