Emergency Management

The Department of Public Safety at Reinhardt University also focuses on campus emergency management.  Through an all-hazards approach to planning, mitigation and response, we strive to continually improve the University’s ability to handle any type of emergency situation.  Through these constant efforts, Reinhardt is continually becoming even better prepared for emergencies and more safe for every member of the campus community.

Planning

The planning phase begins the process by adapting industry-wide best-practice protocols to our specific geographic and community needs.  These guidelines are compiled in the Reinhardt University Emergency Operations Plan and widely distributed throughout campus in various documents, charts, maps, etc.

Mitigation

Mitigation strategies are developed based on the planning process to resolve potential challenges or minimize the possible affects they may have during an emergency.

Response

The Department of Public Safety integrates the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Incident Management System (NIMS) into the response phase of an incident.  The NIMS framework allows for a consistent, organized response while still being adaptable for the situation.
