Volunteer Handbook

This handbook provides volunteer information. If you find there is something we have not covered, please let us know.

Volunteer Basics

Being respectful and gracious is highly valued by the FPAC team.  Volunteers are ambassadors of the theatre.  Please smile and greet patrons.  Ask if they need assistance if a patron looks confused.   Go the extra mile to create a positive theatre experience for patrons and volunteers.  Theatre is fun.  Help us create a positive environment wherein everyone can have a relaxing and enriching experience.

Volunteer Scheduling

All volunteers are asked to commit to at least 5 performances a semester. There are two semesters each year.  The first semester starts August through December and the second January through May.

Event Times: Evening performances are typically at 7:30pm and typically last about 2 hours.
We ask that if you are volunteering during an event that you arrive at 6:30pm. Sign in sheets are located at the Box Office.

Cancel or Rescheduling: It is extremely important to the success of an event to be adequately staffed. If you are unable to fulfill a commitment please contact Ric Sanchez at (770) 720-5558.  We understand life is full of twists and turns that are often out of our control.  If circumstances arise and a last minute cancellation is necessary, please call anyway.  It is important that other volunteers and staff are not waiting on you or worrying about your well being.
All performances are reserved seating with the exception of FREE concerts (so noted on the schedule), which are open seating. All aisles and seats are clearly marked.

Volunteer Dress Code

Volunteers have no dress code, however, we recommend dark pants/skirt and light/white shirt or top. This makes it easier for patrons to find you if they require assistance.
Nametag:  these will be in the Box Office. Please remember to return the nametag before leaving for the evening.

Volunteer Positions

Will Call

Many patrons order tickets over the phone and arrange to pick them up when they arrive at the theatre.  These tickets are held in “Will Call”.  Volunteers handling Will Call work with the Box Office staff.  These tickets have been pre-paid. The Box office is located in the main Lobby of the Theatre.

Ticket Takers

Ticket Takers do just that, take tickets.  Ticket Takers should be located at the bottom of the stairs in the Atrium areaü.  Check the date and time on the ticket to make sure patrons are attending the correct performance, then tear the ticket along the perforated line and patrons receive the larger portion.

Ushers

Ushers have the responsibility for handing out the programs for the performance, help patrons find their seats, seat late arrivals, open/close the Hall doors at appropriate times. We ask Users to use discretion for seating patrons that arrive late. We suggest late arrivals not be seated until an appropriate time during the performance to minimize disturbing the artist(s) and audience.

There are typically 3 Ushers on each side of the main Hall, and at least 1 User for patrons in the balcony seating.

Theatre Information

The Falany Performing Arts Center seats 350.  Is handicap accessible and handicapped seating is available.  For viewing ease, the seating area is graded.  No food or drink is allowed in the Theatre.  Do not hesitate to enforce our "no food/no drinks" policy. We are extremely proud of our facility and it is important for all attending to have a clean environment in which to enjoy the performance. If you are working the balcony, please be aware that this can be an issue with student attendees.

All performances are reserved seating with the exception of FREE concerts (so noted on the schedule), which are open seating. All aisles and seats are clearly marked.
