Featuring Cherokee Robin Jumper and Family
Presenting Festival Dancing
A Free Public Event
Each year, the Funk Heritage Center holds a free public event during November to celebrate Native American month. On November 14 beginning at noon, a family day program will be held in the Appalachian Settlement featuring well-known Cherokee dancer Robin Jumper and his family. These dancers have appeared at area Pow Wows and are known for their festival type dancing. Robin Jumper appeared in the PBS film American Experience: We Shall Remain. His wife and children have participated in many Pow Wows and festivals. Silena Jumper is a singer and songwriter who travels the country with her mother, Cherokee Rose, performing songs from an Indian perspective.
All scouts attending in uniform will receive a free hot dog and drink!
This will be a good day for area scout groups to visit the Heritage Center and learn about Native American traditions. There will be American Indian music and games, demonstrations and children can make Native American crafts. Hotdogs and drinks will be sold or bring a picnic lunch.
Bring lawn chairs! This is a day for people of all ages to enjoy the fall weather and fun activities.
In the event of rain, the programs will be held inside the museum.
