The Georgia General Assembly designated the Chieftains
Trail a State Historic Trail in 1988. The Chieftains Trail
touches a variety of attractions, scenic vistas and outdoor
adventures including the Funk Heritage Center. Travel the Chieftains Trail and explore the rich
history of the Native Americans of Northwest Georgia. Visit
the sites along this route and experience the varied
cultures of the Native Americans who once thrived in these
Appalachian foothills. You will find vestiges of three
distinct Native American cultures: the pre-historic
Mississippian Culture, the Creeks and the Cherokees.
Other highlights of the Chieftain Trail include the Chief
Vann House, the Etowah Indian Mounds, New Echota Cherokee
Capital, the Chieftains Museum and the "Mystery Wall" at
Fort Mountain State Park. For information on Group Tours, press kits, videos and
events, call: 800-733-2280 or visit
