Indians: Stories and Culture Program

School Field Trips: March 23 &24,
2006
Family Day, Saturday, March 25
Jim
Sawgrass will return to the Funk Heritage Center in March for a special
presentation on the culture and oral tradition of the Southeastern
Indians. A Creek hunting camp will form the backdrop for this outdoor
event. Visitors will hear Native American myths and stories, participate
in dances, and see live demonstrations of tools and weapons
including the atlatl and blowgun. This is a curriculum-based program for
elementary children. Students will briefly visit exhibits in the
Center's museum where they will be introduced to the history of the
Southeastern Indians.
Mark your calendar for school field trip days on Thursday and Friday,
March 23 and 24. This is an outdoor event, rain or shine. Reservations
are required for school groups and a 25% deposit is required. A Family
Day will be held on Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. until noon.
The fee for school field trips and Family Day is $7 per person. Call
770-720-5970 for information and reservations.
Sawgrass is a native Floridian and Muskogee descendant. He has shared
his skills and knowledge all
over the southeast for the past two decades to groups of all ages,
performing at schools, churches, libraries, and civic groups both
indoors and outdoors.
