This program for
educators will focus on the material culture (food, clothing,
shelter, transportation, art, etc.) of the Cherokee Indians.
Teachers will receive materials and participate in activities
that target the Georgia Social Studies curriculum. Additionally,
teachers will gain essential background knowledge on Cherokee
culture through stories, language, dance and other experiences.
The special guest presenter
for this workshop is Freeman Owle, member of the Eastern
Band of the Cherokee. He is a former Social Studies teacher and
a professional storyteller. He is known for his scholarship
and teachings on Cherokee history and culture and he
presently teaches at Western Carolina University.
