Greg Ihlenburg,
Class of 20
08

If your college experience is what you make of it, then Greg Ihlenburg has made Reinhardt the way college should be for him.

Ihlenburg, a senior from Canton, Ga., transferred to Reinhardt after spending a year at two larger institutions.

“Coming from a large school, it didn’t take me long to realize why smaller classes are better,” he explained. “Reinhardt’s small class sizes give me the chance to get to know everyone, and the professors can teach you what you need to know—not just lecture and expect you to know it.”

"The Rewards Motivate Me"
Once at Reinhardt, Ihlenburg planted his feet firmly on the ground. He set a goal to graduate with a 4.0 grade-point average from the College—he is only two months and one biology class away from reaching that goal. He has made the Dean’s List each semester, and he was inducted this spring into the Alpha Chi Honor Society.

“Whenever you do well at something, that is the reward in and of itself, for all the hard work that you have put into it,” said Ihlenburg. “The rewards motivate me to focus on and better my future.”

Success On and Off the Field
On the activities-side of Ihlenburg’s Reinhardt experience, he took off running. He has been on Reinhardt’s baseball team the past four years. Due to his athletic and academic success, he was named an All-America Scholar-Athlete by the NAIA [National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics] his sophomore and junior years. During this year's Homecoming, he received the Silver Eagle Award for his team spirit and loyalty to the College. Ihlenburg is also a member of Student Government Association senate, and is president of the Paintball Club—a club that he founded and now has more than 25 active members.

He credits, but does not limit, his success at the College to his professor and Alpha Chi mentor, Dr. John Yelvington, assistant professor of economics, whom he says “took me under his wing and guided me to reach all my goals.”

"The Rest Will Only Get Better"
“I 100 percent believe in Reinhardt and the experiences I have gotten out of it,” Ihlenburg said. “I don’t think you can really grasp what this school has to offer until you come here, and when you do, and you get to know the campus and the people, the rest will only get better.”
