A new line-up for the Falany Performing Arts Center is mapped out for the 2019-20 season, and tickets for some community favorites are going fast.
“This season is all about fun. We really think we’ve brought a great variety of performances to our community—from Bluegrass to Classical, from Jazz to Tributes,” said Falany Performing Arts Center director Jessica Akers. “We even have a great gospel Christmas concert. The School of Performing Arts has a great line-up as well, with Chicago being one of my favorite musicals that they’ll be presenting this season. And, as always, Christmas at Reinhardt, presented by the School of Performing Arts, is one of my favorite ways to kick off the holiday season. There’s really something for everyone.”
The 2019-20 season will kick-off in September with The Coasters, an American R&B and Rock ‘n’ Roll vocal group that had a string of hits in the late 1950s, eventually earning them a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Joe Gransden and his Big Band is next on the schedule, followed by the University Wind Ensemble later in the month, along with the University Theatre’s production of “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, which will continue into the beginning of October.
There are several shows next spring to mark on the calendar, such as Black Market Trust, a Los Angeles-based American Traditional Pop/Vocal Jazz group that combines sounds of the legendary American crooners and vocal groups with the fire and energy of Gypsy Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. In April, the Falany will host Bee Gees Gold: The Tribute, a performance that will bring back all of the best hits from the famous pop group.
The Falany will also host events that are sure to entertain the whole family, including a showing of “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch (2018 Movie)” around the holidays. The Bluegrass Festival in June 2020 will bring an exciting new event to Waleska for the community to connect with their Appalachian roots.
The yearly performances are always ones to look out for, as tickets sell quickly. Don’t miss the various performances from Reinhardt’s talented students in the University Theatre, University Musical and University Opera, along with Reinhardt’s Wind and Jazz Ensembles. Get the chance to watch all the performing arts programs perform together during Christmas at Reinhardt, a tradition that will put everyone in the Christmas spirit.
“Our biggest note to our guests, as we’ve continued to grow, is to make sure you get your tickets in advance,” Akers said. “We have been selling out our performances quickly, and we want to make sure that if you really want to be a part of the arts experience you’ll receive here, you don’t miss out by waiting to get your tickets.”
Tickets currently are on sale for Patron Members, which contribute a donation to help with the programming and facility needs of the Falany. Patron contributions start at $50 per person. “We’d love to help our guests join with a Patron membership and get all of the wonderful benefits attached with this,” Akers said.
Tickets go on sale to the general public 60 days in advance of each show but not before Aug. 1. To learn more about the 2019-2020 Falany season, visit Reinhardt.edu/Falany.
