Price School of Education Mission Statement:
The mission of all teacher preparation programs at Reinhardt University is to produce reflective, problem-solving teachers who respond to the diversity of student needs through differentiated instruction driven by ongoing assessment and adjustments within a nurturing environment.
In support of the Price School of Education Mission, the M.Ed. Program for Early Childhood Education will address:
- Responsive Teaching: M.Ed. candidates will support children’s cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and linguistic development by organizing and orchestrating a nurturing and challenging environment in ways that best facilitate the development and learning of young diverse children.
- Inquiry and Research: M.Ed. candidates will demonstrate in-depth, critical knowledge of the theory and research pertinent to the professional role(s) and focus area(s) emphasized in the program. Using systematic and professionally accepted approaches, each candidate will demonstrate inquiry skills, showing ability to investigate questions relevant to their practice and professional goals through classroom action research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
- Instructional Leadership: M.Ed. candidates will work as leaders and collaborators in the professional community to improve programs and practices for young children and their families. They will reflect on and use their abilities and opportunities to think strategically, build consensus, create change, and influence better outcomes for children, families, and the profession.
The Master of Education Program in Early Childhood Education will promote:
- Data driven action research progressing developmentally from the teacher's classroom, continuing with colleagues, and extending to the building and/or organizational level
- An appropriate blend of theoretical and practical experiences focused on the PSOE DATA Model and curriculum design, differentiated instruction, and ongoing assessment impacting student learning
- Collaborative support of participants (from local school administration and university faculty) as they explore how to glean insight into students’ backgrounds to provide proven strategies, respond to student diversity of culture, language, and ethnicity, and engage in action research aligned with school improvement goals
- Opportunities to take various leadership roles within the local school and/or organizational level
- An emphasis on and integration of cultural competence, applied action research, data driven decision making, content study, critical reflection and problem-based learning
- A Spring 2015 Capstone Experience to provide opportunities for candidates to reflect on and demonstrate their professional growth as an accomplished responsive teacher, action researcher, and instructional leader.
