Master of Fine Arts Visiting Writer

Dr. Graham Johnson
Dr. Graham Johnson has a PhD in English (Saint Louis University, working under Dr. Tom Shippey) with a specialization in medieval literature and linguistics, with a further specialization in Old English, Middle English, and Old Norse. He also has completed work on medievalism (post-medieval works that heavily use medieval elements). His recently published article, “The Developing Verbal Power of Daenerys: A Pragmatics Analysis” is found in the collection, Power and Subversion in Game of Thrones: Critical Essays on the HBO Series. He has also published on the Old English Boethius and the Middle English Proverbs of Hendyng. At Reinhardt University, when not teaching 100-level composition or 200-level literature surveys, he teaches linguistics courses, upper-level ENG literature courses, and whenever the chance presents itself, an IDS Vikings course. He has been thoroughly entertained by and enthusiastic about the delightful and detailed worlds created by authors in the 20th and 21st centuries, from Tolkien’s Middle Earth and Lewis’s Narnia to Lucas’s Star Wars universe.
