Randy Mackin

Dr. Randy Mackin is a member of the English department faculty at Middle Tennessee State University since 1997, having taught courses in general studies English and contemporary Southern literature, and directed the Tennessee Literary Project (TLP), through which students researched the lives of Tennessee writers, composed biographies and bibliographies, prepared photo essays, review books, and conducted interviews with the state's authors. He is the author of George Scarbrough: Appalachian Poet (McFarland 2011), and the forthcoming Dear Folks: The Wartime Letters of James C. Lovell.

A professional journalist since 1982, he is a five-time recipient of the Meeman Foundation/UT Press Institute Award for editorial writing, a two time recipient of the Tennessee School Board Association award for education writing, and received a National Newspaper Association award for editorials. Dr. Mackin serves on the Board of Directors for Humanities Tennessee. He and his wife, Lynda, live in Linden; they have three adult children, Dylan, Hadley, and Joey, and a grandson, Lee.
