Camping & Whitewater Rafting – Nantahala River – September 15-16, 2018

 

Join Reinhardt outdoors for an overnight camping and whitewater rafting trip on North Carolina’s shimmering Nantahala River. The Nantahala features eight miles of practice on Class II rapids before splashing through the exciting Class III whitewater of Nantahala Falls. This is one of America’s most popular whitewater runs! No Experience required.

 

Trip Fee: $45 students, faculty/staff.

Sign-up/Payment Deadline: 5:00 PM on Friday, September 14

 

Limited to 14 people.

Please Note: Once you have made your reservation online you will need to pay the Trip Fee in the Business Office located on the main floor of the Burgess Administration Building before the deadline mentioned above.

 

Trip Itinerary – Saturday, September 15-Sunday, September 16, 2018

Saturday, September 15

1:45 PM          Meet at the Hasty Student Life Center Parking Lot

2:00 PM          Trip Departs (Drive time is approximately 2 hours)

4:00 PM          Check-in at Nantahala Outdoors Center and set-up camp

5:00 PM          Explore and Hike around NOC

6:30 PM          Start Fire/Prep & Cook Dinner

9:00 PM          Free Time/Chill Time around campfires.

Sunday, September 16

8:30 AM          Breakfast and Pack-up Camp

9:45 AM          Check-in at Nantahala Outdoors Center Arrive back on Campus

10:15 PM        Raft the Nantahala River

12:30 PM        Clean-up

1:00 PM          Lunch at Rivers End Restaurant

2:00 PM          Depart for Campus (Drive time is approximately 2 hours)

4:00 PM          Arrive back on campus.

 

What to Bring?

You will need a change of clothes, toiletries and a towel as well as closed-toed shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, Sunscreen, hat, drinking water, and a snack.  You also should bring clothes and shoes that you can hike around in, bug repellant and a hat. Remember to bring a jacket or sweater as once it gets dark the temperature will drop. In addition, you will need camping equipment including frame-packs, sleeping bag and mat which are available for check-out from Reinhardt Central, but they are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Do not check out tents from Reinhardt Central as tents will not be needed.

 

Trip Menu

Reinhardt Outdoors will provide the food and water for the trip (yes, even Smores). There will be three meals (dinner, breakfast and lunch) as well as snacks.
