Community Gathering: Screening of the Documentary Film, Hillbilly

September 13, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Reinhardt Community:

You are invited to attend the first Community Gathering on Thursday, September 13 at 7:00 PM at FPAC’s Flint Hall for the screening of the documentary film, hillbilly.

Students enrolled in FYS 101: Thriving in College who participate may earn credit for verified attendance.

This is a special opportunity for Reinhardt’s campus as one of the filmmakers, Sally Rubin, will be here to answer questions and discuss the work.  Additionally, I just learned that the filmmakers are on the verge of signing a world-wide distribution contract, which will take effect next year.

Reinhardt gets a first-look at an extraordinary film and meet the filmmaker.  Watch the trailer:

A new documentary. Uncovering how contemporary America views poverty and rural identity.
My hope is that Reinhardt students and faculty will enter into an extended conversation about the role of place, family, and education in the formation of personal identity. I also expect that our community will learn about the socio-economics of the Appalachian highlands, which contributes to the on-going struggles of the mountain south— all while the urban areas of the U.S. benefit from Appalachia’s rich resources.

Join us for first Community Gathering on Thursday, September 13 at 7:00 PM at FPAC’s Flint Hall for the screening of the documentary film, hillbilly.
